Brutal killing of Palestinian teenager

The recent brutal killing of Palestinian teenager Mohammed Abu Khdeir presents a big test of conscience for the modern world. The 15-year-old boy was abducted on his way to a mosque in the early morning. According to an initial autopsy report, the boy had been forced to drink gasoline and then was burned alive.

Ninety percent of his body received serious burns and only through DNA samples could his body be identified. Although no group has claimed responsibility for his abduction and murder, most people believe it was a revenge killing after the abduction and killing of three Israeli teenagers some days before. This case of brutality has not ended here; a video is circulating in social media alleging that Israeli security forces beat up Khdeir’s cousin, who is a US citizen. The 15-year-old was admitted to the hospital with a broken nose and swollen face but despite his injuries, he apparently had to wait six hours to receive medical treatment.

This kind of state brutality is nothing new for the Palestinian people. The use by Israel of phosphor bombs, guided missiles and F-16 fighter jets against the civilian population has become a daily occurrence in Gaza and other parts of the occupied territories. Unfortunately, the killing of this Palestinian boy has not attracted the attention of so-called champions of human rights, and despite large protest rallies, Khdeir’s killers remain at large. Due to the double standards of the United Nations and the world’s major powers, things are going from bad to worse. This is the main reason that all the peace plans devised by the US and its allies have not brought peace to the region.
