Dutch company PAL-V unveiled the world’s first flying car at the Geneva International Motor Show in Switzerland, and has now started to take online pre-orders. The first delivery is scheduled for 2019 once the model receives its final safety accreditations. The top road speed of the vehicle is 100 miles per hour (mph), and it can reach up to 112 mph in the air. The two-person vehicle has a maximum altitude of 11,000 feet, and an air range of approximately 350 miles.
Taking off from the road into the air requires manual intervention, which Pal-V claims can be completed in under 10 minutes. The first limited edition model will cost 499,000 euros ($621,500), and only 90 will be for sale. A "Liberty Sport Edition" will thereafter be released for a price of 299,000 euros. The hefty price tag includes flying lessons. Although the vehicle will be certified to fly under U.S. and European safety regulations, owners will require a pilot's license. Pilots will also need access to a small airstrip to take off and land.
