According to latest reports on TV channels like Aaj Tak, NDTV, ABP Star News, Zee News, etc along with these three players of Rajasthan Royals, seven bookies including three from Delhi have also been arrested.
Police sources said the players have been accused of spot-fixing in two matches played by Rajasthan Royals team on 9th May against Kings XI Punjab and yesterday’s match against Mumbai Indians.
On 9th May 2013, in Match 55 of IPL 2013,
Rajasthan Royals beat Kings XI Punjab by 8 Wickets while on 15th May 2013, in Match 66 of IPL 2013, Mumbai Indians beat Rajasthan Royals by 7 Runs. The Rajasthan Royals IPL franchise is co-owned by Bollywood star Shilpa Shetty are playing well in IPL 2013 and have qualified for the IPL 2013 playoffs. For those who dont know about Spot Fixing, Spot fixing is the manipulation of a particular ball or wicket in a cricket tournament, which is then betted upon.
Betting on sports is illegal in India but is allegedly big business in the IPL and is run by underground syndicates in Mumbai and other parts of the country. Sources said bookies often operate out of vehicles now to avoid detection. Previously in IPL 2012, five players were five players namely Mohnish Mishra, Abhinav Bali, TP Sudhindra, Amit Yadav and Shalabh Shrivastava were suspended by the IPL governing council after the Indian television exposed the spot fixing scandals which was evident in the first class matches in Indian cricket.
