America’s drone attacks

A recent report published by Stanford University and New York University warns that the CIA's drone campaign killed very few key targets but that the attacks have resulted in high civilian casualties including women and children. Pakistan’s foreign office issued several statements in the past and said U.S. drone strikes are illegal and against the sovereignty of the country but drones attacks still continue in Pakistan’s tribal border area with Afghanistan. It seems true that after the closure of the NATO supply line and tough stance of the Pakistan government, the U.S. is increasing pressure on Pakistan. Over the last eight years U.S. drone attacks have killed more than 2,000 people in Pakistan. According to human right organizations in Pakistan, most of them who lost their lives were women and children. Former Mushrraff government prepared secret agreements with the U.S. government to carry out U.S. drone programs on Pakistani soil.

Several human rights organizations including Amnesty International condemn the killing of ordinary people through the drone attacks in Pakistan. Only months ago both houses of Pakistan parliament condemned U.S. drone attacks. Security experts in Pakistan believe that because of the killing of ordinary people, drone attacks are the main cause of revenge suicide attacks in Pakistan which is doing harm to the Pakistan economy. Even mosques, markets, public places and army installations are not safe from the revenge attacks.
